Dental FAQs in Nashville, TN
Read answers to these common oral health questions:
How often do you need to schedule a dental cleaning?
We recommend that patients visit the dentist every six months or twice a year. At regular visits, we provide thorough exams, x-rays, and cleanings. Our team keeps track of our patients’ oral health and removes decay-causing bacteria using stainless steel dental tools.
What is the best way to brush and floss?
Brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste will prevent tooth wear and strengthen the enamel. When brushing, tilt the brush at a 45-degree angle. Brush for two minutes twice a day. Using about 18 inches of floss, wind it around each middle finger. Slide the floss up and down between the teeth. Remember to brush your tongue to minimize harmful bacteria in the mouth.
Is it safe to visit the dentist if I’m pregnant?
It is safe for pregnant patients to visit for routine cleanings and exams. We encourage pregnant patients to continue visiting the dentist as they are more prone to developing gingivitis or periodontitis.
What are the most common dental problems?
The most prevalent oral health issues are:
- Tooth Decay: Harmful bacteria can break down the tooth enamel and cause pits or cavities in teeth. We can provide fillings to seal teeth after removing a dental infection.
- Gum Disease: Like tooth decay, harmful bacteria cause gum disease. The bacteria irritate and inflame the gums. Scaling and root planing treatments can remove this bacteria and prevent problems like gum recession.
- Bad Breath: Also known as halitosis, bad breath may be due to bacteria building up on the tongue, teeth, and gums or foods like garlic. Hydrating, brushing, and flossing can help treat halitosis.
